Ingredients
- 4–6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped into 1-inch pieces
- 12 ounces (about 1 pound) cut green beans, fresh or frozen (if fresh, trim both ends and cut into ~1-inch pieces)
- A small pat of butter, about ½ tablespoon
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium-high. When a drop of water sizzles, add the chopped bacon. Sauté, stirring often, until the bacon is crisp. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
- Place the green beans in a microwave-safe bowl. If using fresh green beans, add ÂĽ cup water; frozen beans do not need extra water. Top with the pat of butter.
- Cover the bowl loosely with plastic wrap and microwave on high for 5 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Carefully remove the bowl and peel back the plastic wrap away from your face to avoid steam. Test a bean for doneness. If you prefer firmer beans, stop; otherwise microwave additional 1-minute increments until they reach your desired tenderness.
- Drain any excess water, season the beans with salt and pepper, then sprinkle the crisp bacon over the top. Toss gently to combine and serve warm.
