How We Acquired This Collection

Earlier this year I purchased over 100 pieces of Effy jewelry at liquidation prices. A local Sears location in Las Vegas was closing and clearing out its jewelry inventory, so I bought the entire lot with the original idea of starting an online discount jewelry shop.

The Effy pieces are exquisite, featuring diamonds, rubies, garnets, sapphires and other precious stones. We spent weeks photographing the collection, building an online store and preparing a business plan. When we were ready to launch, the pandemic changed everything and it didn’t feel right to open a jewelry store while so many people were losing work.

With the jewelry stored away and plans on hold, the pieces remained unused. My enthusiasm for retailing jewelry faded, and my team suggested a different plan: give the collection away to our audience. So we decided to offer the pieces as prizes — a total retail value of $167,380.00 — so our readers could share in something joyful this season.
