Crispy Ranch Chicken Wings Recipe for Game Day and Parties

If you grew up dunking every fried chicken bite in ranch, these wings will feel like home. Instead of serving ranch on the side, we build the seasoning into the wings so the tangy, savory ranch flavor bakes into the skin and creates a crisp, flavorful crust. When you season properly and follow the method, the result is wings that taste like they came from a restaurant that knows what it’s doing.

Ranch Chicken Wings Ingredients

No packet necessary — homemade ranch seasoning is simple to mix and gives you full control over the flavor. If you prefer, use a store-bought ranch blend, but make sure you have enough to fully coat the wings.

  • Chicken wings: I prefer split party wings (flats and drums) because they cook evenly and crisp faster. Whole wings can be used but may need to be separated.
  • Chives, dried dill, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper (for the ranch seasoning)
  • Butter (optional, for the ranch butter glaze)

I usually use my Homemade Ranch Seasoning for this recipe so I can control the balance of herbs and spices. Store-bought mixes work too if that’s easier.

How to Make Ranch Chicken Wings

The recipe card below includes full ingredients and exact measurements. The summarized method is below.

  1. Prep the wings: Pat wings dry with paper towels — dry skin crisps better. Place wings in a large bowl, add the ranch seasoning and toss thoroughly so every piece is coated.
  2. Cook the wings: Choose oven or air fryer instructions below.
  3. Optional ranch butter glaze: Melt butter in a small saucepan or microwave. Remove from heat, whisk in a bit of ranch seasoning to create a glossy, clingy glaze.
  4. Toss to coat: Place hot wings in a bowl, drizzle with the ranch butter and toss until glossy. Alternatively, brush the glaze onto each wing.
  5. Serve immediately.

Equipment

  • Air fryer (optional)
  • Baking sheet and wire rack
  • Mixing bowl
  • Meat thermometer (recommended)

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings split party wings recommended

Homemade Ranch Seasoning (adjust quantities to fully coat wings)

  • 1 ½ tablespoons chives
  • 1 ½ tablespoons dried dill
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste typically ¼–½ teaspoon salt, adjust to preference

Optional Butter Ranch Glaze

  • 2-3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ tablespoon chives
  • ½ tablespoon dried dill
  • 1-2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1-2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Oven and Baking Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Pat wings dry and place in a large bowl or resealable bag.
  • Add the ranch seasoning and rub it into the meat, making sure no areas are missed. Add more seasoning to any “bald spots.”
  • Line a sheet pan with a wire rack or parchment paper. A rack allows airflow and yields crispier skin; parchment works if you don’t have a rack.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, open and flip the wings, then bake another 20–30 minutes until crisp and the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness.
  • Optional glaze: Melt butter over low heat, remove from heat and whisk in ranch seasoning. Toss hot wings in the glaze until glossy.

Air Fryer Instructions

  • Pat wings dry and place in a bowl or bag. Toss with ranch seasoning to fully coat.
  • Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket and spritz lightly with oil.
  • Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes, pause to flip, then cook an additional 5–10 minutes until crisp and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  • Optional glaze: Melt butter and whisk in ranch seasoning, then toss the hot wings in the glaze.

Notes

For breaded wings, add ¼–1/3 cup all-purpose flour to the seasoning and toss to coat thoroughly. If you prefer a low-carb option, substitute 1–2 tablespoons of baking powder instead of flour. Adjust salt to taste — around ¼–½ teaspoon works for most palates. If you notice excess seasoning left in the bowl, sprinkle it over the wings before cooking for maximum flavor.

  • Dip in homemade ranch dressing for extra ranch flavor.
  • Use foil if you don’t have parchment; foil may brown the bottoms more quickly, so monitor cooking time.
  • Add cayenne or Cajun seasoning (1–1½ teaspoons) to make the wings spicy.
  • Ensure wings are fully coated with seasoning — unseasoned spots will taste bland.
  • Check internal temperature: 165°F is safe, while 185–190°F yields meat that pulls easily from the bone and crisper skin.

Tried this recipe?Let us know how it was!
Can I use whole wings instead of party wings?

Yes, but party wings cook more evenly and typically yield better texture. Whole wings can be separated for more consistent results.

Can I air fry ranch wings?

Absolutely. The air fryer crisps skin without drying the meat — avoid overcrowding the basket so the wings don’t steam.

Can I bake them instead?

Yes. Bake at a high temperature and flip halfway. A wire rack helps keep the wings out of their juices for maximum crispiness.

For baked wings, can I use foil instead of parchment paper?

Foil and parchment both make cleanup easier. Foil reflects heat and can brown faster; parchment is naturally non-stick. If using foil, spray with a little oil and monitor cooking time.

For breaded wings, how do I substitute flour?

Use 1–2 tablespoons of baking powder to coat the chicken for a low-carb crisp, or use all-purpose flour (about ¼ cup to start) if you want a traditional breading.

What’s the ideal internal temperature for wings?

Wings are safe at 165°F, but many cooks prefer 185–190°F for a more tender texture that pulls from the bone and crispier skin.

How to reheat

Reheat in the air fryer at 400°F for a few minutes until warmed through, or warm in the oven at 350°F until hot.

Freezer tips

Freeze leftover wings tightly sealed for a few months. Thaw overnight before reheating, or reheat from frozen following appropriate cook times.

Can I use frozen wings?

Yes — use an air-fryer frozen wings method or adjust oven times. Ensure they reach a safe internal temperature.
